Our History Intent

At Ramsey Spinning Infant school we strive to provide an engaging, hands-on History curriculum which entails practical opportunities to spark the children’s interests. We teach a range of historical topics across the year groups whilst encompassing the aims of the EYFS framework and National Curriculum.

Pupils learn about their physical world and their community, both past and present. We emphasise the History of our local area and equip children with a deeper understanding of our locality over different periods of time. Our topics aim to spark questioning, fascination and the ability to talk about past events with confidence. Children develop insight into the lives of significant individuals and historical events in the past. They fit these within a chronological framework whereby they are encouraged to identify the similarities and differences in ways of life during different periods.

Pupils learn and use historical terminology, explaining their knowledge in a variety of ways. Our curriculum is carefully designed to build on prior knowledge enabling pupils to make comparisons and connections between events in the past and present. We aim for our lessons to leave an imprint and fascination for pupils, which will result in an ability to retain learning and make connections during further History topics and develop a love for the subject.
